Magnetic or clamp car mount — which holds better?

A clamp grips the phone mechanically, so it is the safer choice on rough roads and with heavy phones. A magnetic mount is faster — you place the phone one-handed — but holding force depends on the magnets: MagSafe-standard mounts hold well, while a thin metal plate under a case holds noticeably less.

Does a magnetic mount work through a case?

Through a thin case (up to roughly 2 mm) a MagSafe mount works, though the hold weakens. A thicker or rugged case pushes the magnets too far apart — in that case choose a case with magnets built in, or an adhesive metal plate.

Where in the car is the best place to mount a phone?

Crong Carclip Magnetic CRG-CH6-BLK is a black magnetic phone holder that clamps to a vehicle air-vent slat. Its movable locking head carries a circular pad with 16 magnets for a MagSafe-compatible iPhone or for another phone used with one of the supplied adhesive metal plates.

Crong advertises magnetic grip of nearly 2 kg, but no universal vehicle or dynamic test method is supplied. Actual retention depends on phone and case weight, magnetic alignment, plate placement, road shocks and temperature; after severe bumps, stop safely and check the mount rather than treating the stated figure as a load or crash rating.
Check the vent before fitting. Thin, weak, deeply recessed, motorised or unusually shaped slats may not hold the clamp and can be damaged; tighten only enough for stable contact, do not force it, and periodically inspect the slat and clamp for movement or cracks.
A bare compatible MagSafe iPhone or a suitable MagSafe case can attach directly. For a non-MagSafe phone or case, clean and dry the surface before applying one plate and allow its adhesive to settle. A metal plate can interfere with wireless charging, NFC or magnetic accessories; never leave it between a phone and wireless charger.
This is a holder, not a charger, and it contains no charging coil or power input. The glowing rings in promotional artwork do not indicate active charging. Remove the phone from the mount to use a wireless charger, and use a separate compatible cable or charging system when power is needed.
Set the viewing angle and confirm the lock before driving. Position the mount so it does not obstruct the road, controls, instruments, airflow or an airbag, and route any separate cable safely. Configure navigation before moving and follow local rules; do not operate the phone by hand while driving.
